Redevelopment of General Farm Stock Building to form animal care facility for reptiles, birds and exotic mammals
Electrical Services Included provision of new electrical supply and associated distribution equipment including the provision of a dedicated distribution board fed from the local network with emergency generator back up in the event of power failure to maintain the electrical supplies to circuits serving the vivarrium.
This constituted to an important part of the design due to the reptile tanks requiring continual heating.
General Lighting and Power Services to the building were provided by a surface mounted steel and PVC conduit installation, complete with waterproof MK Masterseal accessories throughout.
Luminaries were generally of the sealed vapourproof type to facilitate ease of cleaning and account for the damp environments found in a number of the animal containment areas.
A full fire alarm system has been installed in accordance with BS5839, this linked to the main Campus Reception via a dual channel remote paging system.
The system is of the conventional analogue type, field devices including photo electric smoke detectors, manual call points, heat detectors and electronic sounders.
In addition to the fire detection system emergency lighting is installed in accordance with the requirements of the Local Fire Officer and Building Control responsible for this area.
For security purposes an intruder alarm system is provided. As with the fire detection system this has been linked to the Main Campus Reception utilising the second channel on the remote paging unit.
On completion the complete installation was commissioned in accordance with the requirements of the 16 Edition IEE Wiring Regulations and the corresponding NICEIC Certificastion issued for electrical, Fire and Emergency lighting installations.
